The Venture Bros. Season 4 vol. 2 DVD
and The Venture Bros. Complete Season 4 Blu-Ray hit the shelves today!

(But you already knew that.)

And so...

Hello again. I've been promising Big News for a while, but have had to keep it under wraps. Mostly because contracts take a long time to work out (even when all parties agree to their contents) and the PR department* would prefer to be professional and make a proper to-do about the timing and presentation of said Big News.

It just occurred to me that Doc and I mouthed off about our big news all over the DVD commentaries, assuming when we recorded them in November/December that this would all be public knowledge by now. And since our fans seem to enjoy listening to the commentary tracks the day our DVDs come out--and then immediately discussing them on the internet (FIRST!)--this particular cat will soon be out of this particular bag anyway. So who better than this confessed cat person to deliver it safely?

Herewith the cat:

We've recently signed a new contract with adultswim to produce two more seasons of The Venture Bros.

Doc and I officially started writing last week. Though, in truth, we technically started writing season 5 last year when we accidentally brainstormed a handful of (we think) pretty hot new stories while we were writing the season 4 finale. Our goal is to have enough scripts to comfortably begin pre-production by June.

But wait...that's not all!

Our contract also includes a long-form (60-90 min.) Venture Bros. special. Don't ask me when we'll make it, what it's going to be about, or whether it'll be on TV or direct-to-DVD, because we don't have a clue yet. Nevertheless: good news!

Tell them what else they get, Jackson...

We've been secretly working on an 11 minute Venture Bros. special for the past couple of months. A sort of light-hearted, one-off little aperitif we're producing and animating entirely in-house at Titmouse Studios in NY and LA. It will premiere some time this summer.

I think that's enough for you to chew on for a while. More news later as it develops. Now go buy some DVDs or something...

We Love You,

*Apologies to the PR department for the whole cat thing. And also for incorrectly referring to you as the "Puerto Rican Department"** in several emails. I have since been informed that PR stands for "Public Relations."

**Apologies to Puerto Ricans, and Puerto Rico. Please disregard all those emails. They were intended for the Public Relations department at adultswim.

By the way, what was that Human League song?

Just finished listing to all the commentary tracks on the Venture Brothers 4.2 set, and overall it's probably the best set of VB commentary tracks thus far - entertaining, clearly audible, and you two seem to be having a lot of fun with it - but I do have one question: what is that Human League song the Monarch is so fond of? "The Things Dreams are Made of?" "Love Action?" What?

Unless of course that particular detail is part of some gag you're kicking around for a future episode - since if that's the case, past experience suggests such a thing will be worth the wait.

Keep up the good work, and best of luck with the coming seasons.

Re: By the way, what was that Human League song?

"dont you want me baby", i think.

You just made my next two years!

We love you too, Jackson! (& Doc!)

Sound levels on Vol 4.2 DVDs

Hey! I was disappointed to find that the sound levels on the DVD sets for season 4.2 are completely unacceptable. The soundtrack completely overwhelms the dialogue. Is there any solution to this problem? Are others making this same observation? I will be writing Adult Swim.

Re: Sound levels on Vol 4.2 DVDs

I've played mine on a computer with Bose speakers and a stereo TV and it sounds fine--though, admittedly, we do run the music a little "hot" sometimes, particularly during action sequences in which the dialogue isn't crucial (the opening to "The Diving Bell Vs. The Butterglider," for instance). But not like "write a letter to adultswim" hot.

I've yet to listen to the DVD on a surround sound system, but we mix the show in 5.1 to begin with. What are you listening to your DVD on? If you're listening in surround, check your center speakers. That's all the advice I can give you.

Think so?

Cus if the answer's yes, were gonna go.

Sorry to keep buggin you on it, just need an idea so i can tell work.

I just saw the as bump that mentioned the special, and it made my friggin NIGHT.

Anyway I bought 4.1 and was quite proud of it and after fully enjoying every second of what it had to offer I lent it to one of my friends who started watching the show. Then when I realized 4.2 was dropping soon I was like "Well why not just have everything in one place?" So I let my friend keep 4.1 as a gift, bought the complete season 4 on blu-ray and why you might ask? Because I enjoy buying products that you guys see proceeds of, I honestly cant think of ANY other writers who deserve it as much as you guys do. Fantastic job on 4th season, the episodes just keep on getting better and I hope you didn't raise the bar too high after the finale because it was fucking brilliant. Regardless, can't wait until season 5!!!

P.S. So does this mean Hunter has to quit SPHINX (or does that boarder on spoiler)?

Any idea when the remainder of season 4 will be released up in Canada? We in Soviet Canuckistan would enjoy the chance to peruse your capitalist wares.

So I'm listening to the commentary, and...

I, too, wonder exactly how they write the long jokes in Family Guy.

So wait, your producing VB at Titmouse now and not at World Leaders anymore? or is this just for the special?

Keep doing what u guys are doing because your show is hilarious. I'm kind of a recent fan but I have all the seasons on dvd that are out and I cant stop watching them. I hope there is going to be alot more of shoreleaf because he is one of the funniest one. Other than that I wish u guys the best, your show has made me laugh(many times)and I thank you guys for that. I also look forward for two more seasons and hopefully there will be many more.-keith

You may be interested to know that there is a hoity-toity gastropub in Seattle called Tavern Law which has on its cocktail menu a drink called the "Doctor Girlfriend". It is appropriately pink and girly.

Buy DVDs or something? Yes Sir, Mr Jackson Sir. Right away.

When is the Venture Bros. Special going to air or did I somehow manage to miss it. I'm a huge fan of the show and I'd be really disappointed if I missed it. If anyone happens to know when it's coming on or if I missed it that would be very helpful. Thanks.

Season 4 on one DVD set?

Will there be a release of Season 4 (on non-Blu-Ray DVDs) on one DVD set in the future, or will it remain only available divided into two volumes?

Re: Season 4 on one DVD set?

I have no idea. That would be sensible of them, though, wouldn't it.

When will season 5 be on dvd??

Re: Season 5 on dvd soon????

No clue. About a year or more? Season 5 has to air on TV first, and that ain't happening until January/February of 2013 (with the exception of the Halloween episode)
