Nocturnal Emission
As you've no doubt already learned from timelier Venture news sources (see links in the sidebar), the second half of season 4 of The Venture Bros. will be premiering on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 11:30pm EST.

It's been a busy month. We've delivered five of our eight episodes to the network. The sixth and seventh have been edited and are currently in the care of our steadfast sound engineer, Dave Paterson, who is literally putting all the bells and whistles on them. In about two weeks, we'll be done with every episode except the hour-long season finale, which we shipped overseas about a month and a half after the rest of the season. Speaking of which...

About a week ago, we received the first rough cut footage of the first half of the hour-long season finale episode--which we watched and re-watched with eagle eyes looking for all the mistakes, big and small, and then typed up our usual fourteen page list of retakes. In a little less than two weeks we'll receive the first take of the second half (as well as the second take of the first half) and we'll repeat the same thing. Frith willing, all the retakes will get done swiftly, we'll race through the final picture edit, and we'll actually get that thing on the air when the rest of the episodes are still fresh in your memory.

We think you're really going to like these next eight episodes. We liked the last eight a whole lot, and we think these are better. For those of you who didn't like the last eight, well...I can safely say these new ones have more of the things you thought were missing from the last ones, less of the things you thought there was too much of, and quite a few new and unexpected twists . Just lookit this collage of screengrabs, for instance--Oh! The places you'll go!!!

And, in an effort to avoid being scooped by everyone else, here are the titles of all of this half-season's episodes (some of which were decided at the last minute, while we were making the end credits), in the order in which they'll air...

"The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-glider"
"Pomp & Circuitry"
"Every Which Way But Zeus"
"Everybody Comes to Hank's"
"Bright Lights, Dean City"
"Assisted Suicide"
"The Silent Partners"
"Operation: P.R.O.M."

And, lastly, a PLUG...

Venture alumnus, super-pal and yiddish-loving Italian-American Stephen DeStefano premiered his new graphic novel, "Lucky In Love" at the San Diego Comic Con, and I was fortunate enough to snag a copy. Now it's your turn. Go buy one:

We Love You,

P.S. Oh yeah, and there's this:

We couldn't be happier with how the dollies action figures came out. Maybe you should buy those, too!

Mr. Publick!

Is there a reason why the first half of season 4 on DVD didn't release before the second half premieres?

I can't wait to see all of the season!

Yeah. Because we were busy making the second half of the season, so we couldn't get our commentaries and special features together in time for an earlier release. We had to be done with the DVD project about two months ago to make the October street date. For whatever reason, DVDs seem to take a lot of time to produce.

Not sure if this video has made it to you yet, but Sgt. Hatred encountered a small boy with some candy at Sogen Con:

That was funny!
And that dude gets extra credit for staying in voice.

(it's about standards, people)

news on the new season WITH girl hitler AND someone mentioning major matt mason? all in one blog post?

really looking forward to the new season- you guys rock

I mean...Mighty Maker!

I can hardly wait for more of the show!

Thanks for kicking in the extra effort this season.

YAY! Can't wait for the new episodes!

That's right, I can't wait! Thanks again for all you do. In the last month I had a venture brothers marathon, followed up by the tic (both animated and the live action show). Now I need to go buy a copy of duckman and teleport myself back to the 90s. later.

"It's a sunami! Quick! Tie me to something!"

Awesome stuff. Those toys are also pretty rad, I'm finally laying down money I should spend on college supplies for those things. I just can't fight it any longer. Must have toys. :3

"Operation: P.R.O.M."

This Makes Me So Happy.

I thought I was being pretty patient about waiting for the new season. Just biding my time by watching all the seasons and commentaries...then you made this post. Now the anticipation is killing me! XD
Couple weeks ago my buddy had shipped to me 21 and 24, and just last night I found The Monarch at my local comic shop! LOVE the designs!

Love you and Doc both, sir!

My wife and I will be buying as much as we can to Vote Venture!

Murderously Yours,

I should say, will continue to buy as much as we can.

What is the plan with the DVD release(s) of the latest season?

Murderously Yours,

3 words: Spider Skull Island

Fantastic news about 4.2 air dates. Now that I know when the joy and fun of Venture Bros will come, I'll be premiering the first-time replay of 4.1 episodes off my DVR in a Labor Day Marathon of my own making.
Thank you for posting the amazing screengrabs! As always, you treat your fans right and if it were at all possible I'm sure the fans would gladly bestow abundant energy and riches for you and Doc and your crew.
Perhaps I may have missed any announcements of late but I was wondering if the show was contracted for more seasons? If I remember correctly, the last contract was for seasons 3 and 4.

We are at T-minus 8 days and counting!

You had me at Girl Hitler at the U.N.!

This is gonna be one long 8 day wait.

Thanks for taking the time to do things right.

As cliché as it sounds, We love you, too!

Can't wait for the rest of the season to start up again. Thank you so much for all of the work you guys have put into this!

I'm all hyped up on the dollies...do you know when the rest of the action figures will be released for sale? I really want Dr. Girlfriend and Orpheus. I already bought Brock and The Monarch. Don't know how I'm going to resist buying them all. The quality is amazing and well worth the money.

Re: Love the dollies :)

I'm looking forward to Orpheus, Dr. Girlfriend, Hank and Phantom Limb as much as you are, if not more. But sadly, I have no idea when they'll be released. I'd suggest you keep checking the Bif Bang Pow blog and the Entertainment Earth site. I can't imagine they wouldn't be out in time for Christmas, though!

i can't wait for the next half, the trailer looks very tasty.

i do have a question though.
as a recently graduated animation student, i have been exposed to the number of actual projects that are sent over seas in order to be completed.
i was curious as to how much cheaper it is to have work completed over seas versus in the states for you guys.
i only ask because, in all the commentary i have heard on animated series outsourced they all have such a high level of corrections needing to be done.
i understand most over seas studios are very young when it comes to their place in animation history, it just seems like it would cost so much more to have to constantly send work back to be corrected.

I couldn't give you actual figures on the difference in price between animating in the U.S. and animating overseas, but I do remember the decision was a no-brainer back when we were budgeting the first season. Since we'd animated the pilot episode completely in-house in NY, we had a direct line of comparison, and animating in Korea was substantially less expensive. It basically comes down to labor. It takes scores of artists to animate a full 22 minutes in 14 weeks. Finding them, paying them, and renting a place big enough to hold all of them would be far more expensive here in America, and especially in New York.

As for mistakes, it doesn't cost us anything to have the overseas studio repair them, if they're indeed mistakes. If we directed everything correctly and they just messed up (say, a color pop or a compositing error), it's on them to re-deliver it as directed.

Also, it's not like we Americans never make mistakes when animating, so there would undoubtedly be retakes in an in-house production as well.

So I doubt you have anything to do with this, but I wanted to bring something to your attention that I'm a little peeved about. I bought a season pass for season 4.1 for like $12.99 last years and expected something similar for season 4.2. Apparently the only season pass offered is $24.99 for all sixteen episodes when I already own eight of them. :/

Kinda disappointing.
