Back In Action...

I'm back from San Diego Comic Con. Doc, however, is still on a train...somewhere near Chicago at last report. The whole weekend was a resounding handshake, hug and cheer-filled success for Team Venture, and I thank all of you who attended and braved the lines and the wait to shake our hands, hug us and cheer for us.

Doc and I were joined on stage at our standing-room-only panel by Jon Schnepp, Mike Sinterniklaas and James Urbaniak. Among other enticements (a "best calves" contest, an arm wrestling competition, and much dick talk) we showed a 3 minute preview of the upcoming season, quickly cobbled together from a batch of unfinished rough cuts, a little bit of After Effects and a tasty slice of JG Thirlwell's music the night before Doc left town. Nonetheless, it was well received by our captive audience. Hopefully Adult Swim will post it in its entirety some time this week...but I'm sure those guys are busy as hell editing all kinds of footage from the various panels and parties over the weekend.

Tomorrow morning, the insanity begins anew. Even though we've barely begun post-production on the first half of The Venture Bros. Season 4, we start production on the second half of Season 4 at 10am EST, when the entire design department returns from their long hiatus to start making the magic again. It will undoubtedly be a hellish few months ahead, what with editing the first eight episodes while writing and directing the next eight, but I'm really looking forward to it. Honestly, too much down time just doesn't agree with my constitution. But also, getting to see the fruits of our labor in the form of finished animation at the same time as we're working on new ones adds a new layer of excitement to the process and cuts down on that detachment you can sometimes feel from the final product when your lead time is like nine months. And the stuff we've been getting back from Korea this season has been of uniformly higher quality than seasons past. Plus, I think the scripts we're starting with tomorrow are among our strongest so far, and they hint at more excitement to come.

Here's just a taste of what we've been seeing these past couple of months, and what you'll be seeing in a couple more:

We Love You,

Today's Huffington Post gave us a little shout-out, including a clip, in an article about the new G.I. Joe movie, of all things: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/28/icorneri-gi-joe-movie-not_n_246291.html

And here's a link to an interview with LA Weekly we did at Comic Con. Or, it would appear, that Doc did with me standing nearby saying one or two things every once in a while.

Whoever's twittering (tweeting?) as jacksonpublick is NOT me.

Wow the show is looking really great, at least from those stills. Is there any reason for the improved quality? Is it practice or just the animators getting to know you better or more budget or anything like that? It's really impressive how far things have come from season one.

It's a little of everything, I think. We got better at being super-anal with all the materials we send to Korea, and they got a little better at interpreting them. Of course, I don't pick stills from the clunkier scenes, but those are fewer and farther between this season.

Are there ever going to be Venture action figures?

You guys should hook up with Hot Toys and produce some amazing 1//6(12") Venture toys. I can just picture Monarch now.

Damn. I wish I could be there. But alas I couldn't *Is stuck in the Bay Area with no job and no means of transportation*

And those stills look gorgeous! Lmao @ Hank on the toilet. I wonder the situation behind that one was about....

Awesome update. thx for the info. coincidentally "I know why the caged bird kills" happened to be on whilst I just randomly came upon this post!

looking 4ward to the new season. I have also gotten a large group of my friends loving the show....marathon season with cocktails is in the works!!

signing off....
Henchman # umm....I forgot! :)

"sweeeeeet loooove"
-Dr Henry Killenger w/ his magic murder bag!

I wanted to go so badly, since I missed last year!
Still no funds though.

My friend went without me...to see the Twilight cast...UGH.

Make sure you let your friend know how much she sucks...for BOTH reasons.

Great new screenshots, sir! Cannot wait to see a video of the panel and preview. One of these days I'll get off my ass (when I have the extra money) and get to one of these cons to meet you fellows.

Apparently even James Urbaniak was fooled on twitter? He had "you" added on there when I first signed up so I added "you" as well...Alas...:/

We love you all too!

I was sooo bummed that we missed the panel. But at least we got your autograph. I was too tounge-tied to really say anything worth while than "I don't have anything cool for you to sign. oh, this is free? sweet" haha. But it really made my day to sneak a picture with you and Doc. Creepy, I know.

Love the speed suits in the LA Weekly photos. Very sharp.

dean on the toliet makes me *squee*

everything else also makes me feel happy teaser stuffs.

You rocks. Nowt else to say, guys!

Next time you go to a convention, you may need to take some of these. Those cons can get whiffy.

I'm so glad the plastic surgeon's making another appearance.

More Order of the Triad, yay! I look forward to seeing you guys at DragonCon. :-)

I can not wait until next season, they just get better and better. Best birthday present I got was season 2 on blue ray.

Though my wife has threatened to kill me if I watch the Orb one more time.

Thanks for the stills from the new season! I would love it if you guys did another collage of everyone in their new costumes and such for the upcoming episodes much like you did with season 3, that made such a great wallpaper! I have to say the last still really caught me off guard, that's the same doctor that worked on Hunter if I'm not mistaken and it I can't wait to see what that scene is in reference to!

Also, sorry to hear about the Twitter thing, my boyfriend is always following people on there and telling me about what funny thing celeb "x" says, to which I just roll my eyes and think 'Yeah right' I have a sinking feeling that between Skymall, Fergie and Twitter, those will be the inevitable end of our modern society as we know it.

Keep up the great work!
